Please Stop Brushing Your Dog Dry
(We say this with love.)
Okay.
If you’ve ever grabbed a slicker brush and gone to town on a completely dry coat… you are not alone.
We see it every week.
You’re trying to help.
You’re being proactive.
You’re thinking, “I’m preventing mats!”
But here’s the gentle truth:
Brushing a dry coat is like dragging Velcro through spaghetti.
There’s friction.
There’s breakage.
There’s static.
And if your dog already has sensitive skin? It can feel like tiny little scratches.
Not ideal.
Why It Matters (Especially for Our Allergy Kids)
If your dog deals with:
• Seasonal allergies
• Random mystery itchiness
• Doodle curls
• Long feathering
• That one spot behind the ears that always tries to dreadlock
Dry brushing can actually make things worse.
Friction irritates skin.
Irritated skin leads to scratching.
Scratching leads to… you guessed it… more problems.
And we are not in the business of more problems.
The Simple Upgrade
Before you brush, lightly mist the coat.
That’s it.
Not soak.
Not drench.
Just a little hydration.
A conditioning spray creates slip so the brush glides instead of drags. It protects the hair shaft, reduces breakage, and makes the whole experience way more comfortable for your dog.
Your brush should glide like it’s on vacation.
Not fight like it’s in boot camp.
This Is What We Mean When We Say “It Takes a Village”
Good grooming doesn’t only happen inside our studio.
It happens in your living room.
On your patio.
During that five-minute “hold still, please” moment before dinner.
We’ll always teach you how to care for your dog’s coat between visits. Because better skin and coat health is a team effort.
And if you’re unsure what spray is right for your dog’s coat type? Ask us. We love this stuff.
(And yes… we may or may not be working on a Goose & Co hydration spray. Stay tuned.)
Community Reminder
You are not supposed to know everything.
That’s why Gather at Goose exists.
We’re here to share what we learn, what we see, and what actually works in real life — not just in theory.
Because dogs deserve better.
And better care is built together.
